Soak in the sunshine. BREATHE

You have GOT to try this on your next vacation

Travelling has captured the fancy of the younger generation like nothing else. Wanderlust and orophilia are now words thrown around social media feeds like they were cat memes. Jetting off to the next location, picking the next destination, shelling out big bucks for memorable experiences has become the sole motivator for many. It’s no surprise that popular tourist hotspots are now levying tourist charges and extra fees to curb the crowds from thronging iconic locations.

Even romantic proposals are now being choreographed at fancy locations, rather than happening organically. What’s causing this spur in travel? While social media fuels the need to post about the next exotic vacation, and prompts us to tick off maximum scenic spots from our bucket list; have we even stopped to question what we’re travelling for in the first place? Apart from Instagram (!), one major reason could be the human tendency and will to explore new places.

On my last vacation, I decided to do it differenly and not explore at all. I made a conscious decision to take things super slow and actually enjoy the journey rather than making it about how many places we visited or how many items we ticked off our checklist.

The art of enjoying travelling…nice and slow

If you look away from its over-glamorised avatar, travelling can be quite exhuasting. Even a two-hour car journey keeps your body constantly in motion, slowly depleting your energy and resources. The moment you reach the hotel or homestay, you start thinking the activities to do, the sights to see and the places to explore without letting your body recuperate from the draining journey.

But next time, on your next vacation, try the art of doing nothing. Just take it niiiceeee and slow! Soak in the sunshine, bask in the warm breeze, listen to the sounds around. Observe the people and their activities, hear the birds chirping, the glasses tinkling, or the wind chime ringing.

I don’t know about you, but for me this mindful and slow vacation was a much-needed break and a respite from the usual traffic, chaos, madness, dust and pollution. Just being in the midst of nature and enjoying its full glory was a decision that all my senses welcomed. I actually relished natural beauty and appreciated the things I usually take for granted.

So yes, I would strongly suggest: take a nice, deep breath and fill your lungs with fresh air. Take a walk in nature. Take some time off to yourself. Take a pause and do nothing.

Indulge yourself

I can say from personal experience that the best way to enjoy a vacation is just to truly pamper yourself from top to bottom. Book a relaxing full-body massage therapy, kick back those heels and enjoy. You could also go for a relaxing yoga session, mindfullness exercises or a sound therapy workshop.

Sleep, eat, relax, repeat is the ideal travel mantra. And trust me, it works every time. So give it a shot!
