My favourite writing advice is that writing is incomplete without editing. No matter how much effort you put, no matter how much of your heart you pour into your writing--there will always be something that can be improved.

And yes, step away from the piece and come back to it and see how much difference you can make to it with a fresh pair of eyes and a renewed sense of your own style.
